Emerson "Tex" Byrd
Chief Flight Instructor
Tex is a 38 year Air Force Veteran, former instructor at the USAF Academy and a Cal Berkeley graduate. He received his pilot's license in 1969 and became an instructor in 1991. Since he blessed Hillside Aviation with his presences in 1994, he has given over 3,700 hours of instruction.
Tex is married with five children, one which graduated from the USAF Academy and then went on to fly for the USAF Thunderbird's. On a clear morning, you might catch Tex flying around in his RV6A which he built on his own. He is the former President of the Redding Area Pilots Association (RAPA), a member of National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).
